Stephenson Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

STEPHENSON INDUCTED INTO THE OKLAHOMA HALL OF FAME FOR CITY AND TOWN OFFICIALS

Craig Stephenson, City Manager of Ponca City, was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for City and Town Officials during a ceremony at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City on Thursday, September 13.

Having dedicated over 33 years in city management, Craig has made significant contributions ensuring the sustainable operations of city government, not only in Ponca City but at the state level as well. As an active member and leader of the American Society of Public Administration of Oklahoma, the City Manager’s Association of Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Academy, and the Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group, Stephenson has advocated and strived for the continued betterment of cities and towns throughout Oklahoma and those that serve municipal roles within them. In 2014, Stephenson’s ability to lead was recognized by the Oklahoma Municipal League with the Gerald D. Wilkins Award for Outstanding City Manager in Oklahoma. Craig’s municipal representation at the state level and his drive for accountability, sustainability, collaboration, and innovation has helped to move both our city and state forward.

Mayor Homer Nicholson, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016 and is a Hall of Fame Foundation Board Member, presented Stephenson with his medallion. Mayor Nicholson stated, “Craig works with a long range vision and makes decisions for tomorrow and 10 to 50 years in the future.” He continued, “He is a true leader in all areas and overdue to be honored in the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for City and Town Officials.”

During his induction, Stephenson said, “I have been blessed in my career to be in the right place at the right time. I have been surrounded by some of the brightest municipal officials and employees around. Each one of them have had an impact on my mentoring, whether a member of the governing body, employees of the city, peers, or members of the various organizations I have belonged to over my career. They have been and are committed to public service, doing their best each and every day regardless of the tasks at hand.”

A large contingent from the City of Ponca City, the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce, the Ponca City Development Authority, and the Stephenson family were in attendance to celebrate the occasion, including Craig’s mother Mary Stephenson. Craig and his wife Beckie have five children: Mandi, Andrea, Aaron, Austin, and Adam, as well as seven grandchildren.
