What does “chip and seal” mean?
“Chip and seal” is a street maintenance method consisting of oil and half-inch limestone chips. It is applied by spraying the oil and evenly spreading the limestone chips. It is then compacted with rollers. The excess chips are then swept up the following week. The overall build-up is about 5/8 inch. This is a very effective and economical treatment that seals out moisture and prolongs pavement life.
