1. Who maintains the Pioneer Women Museum grounds?

Although the Pioneer Woman Museum is owned by the State, the Park and Recreation Department has a contract with them to maintain the grounds.

2. What features does the Lake Ponca Recreational Area include?

Lake Ponca supports many of the traditional outdoor activities, including:

• Boating


• Camping


• Eating at outdoor picnic shelters


• Fishing


• Golfing on an adjacent golf course


• Hiking on nature trails


• Swimming in our outdoor swimming pool


• Water-skiing

Permits for fishing, boating, and skiing may be purchased at the Park and Recreation office located at 905 West Hartford Avenue. The Lake Ponca Recreation Area serves as an ideal location for individual, family, and group outings. Additionally, it hosts a variety of community events throughout the year.

3. Where is the Lake Ponca Campground located?

The Lake Ponca Campground is a camper / RV area located behind East Lake Ponca on East Dam Road (East Dam Road joins L.A. Cann just east of Lake Ponca Park, or off of L.A. Cann). The campgrounds are for recreational use only. Camping sites may be rented for a minimal fee on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are taken. Electrical and water hookups are available, as is a small dump station and a restroom / shower facility. The maximum length of stay is two weeks.

4. Where is Lake Ponca Park located?

Lake Ponca Park is located a half block east of Pauline's Restaurant on LC Cann (the main road coming into Lake Ponca). This area features play areas for children, duck ponds, and covered shelter houses suitable for large group gatherings. Restrooms are located on site. Fishing in Lake Ponca Park Ponds is restricted to children age 15 and younger. The shelters are equipped with wood burning fire places, electrical outlets, lights, and stationary tables and benches. Water and a large charcoaler are located close to each shelter.

5. How do I reserve a shelter house?

The shelter houses located at AMBUC Park and at the Sailboat Marina are both free and are used on a first-come, first-served basis. The shelter houses at Lake Ponca Park are rented in blocks of time, either from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm or from 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm. Reservations may be made up to one year in advance.
