Mission
The Ponca City Library is a unique community facility, which exists to meet the informational needs of the community. To accomplish this, the Library will provide contemporary and classic high demand, popular materials; a well trained and courteous staff; a safe, accessible and welcoming environment; lifelong learning; enrich personal a leisure time; and equal service to all customers.
2009 Fiscal Highlights
- Increased Library visits per capita to 12.5 by fall 2008.
- Received two American Library Association grants to supplement collections and aid in public arts and humanities programming.
- Partnered with Standing Bear Museum in a grant to receive microfilm for the genealogy and local history department.
- Served 3,000 children through the annual Summer Reading Program.
- Provided monthly outreach services to four senior/assisted living facilities.
- Partnered with local VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers to provide free tax help to community residents 40 hours per week from February through April 2009.
- Completed interesting displays throughout the year on varied topics such as our Sister City program, Native American history, environmental issues, and seasonal themes.
- Provided book reviews and promotional interviews for the City of Ponca City television channel.
- Initiated Winter Book Bingo program for adults in January 2009.
- Created “First Friday” author series in January 2009.
- Partnered with a local art studio and University scholar to create Royal Nepal Through the Lens, an art exhibit and catalog booklet.
- Presented 10th annual Children’s Rodeo for over 900 participants with the annual 101 Rodeo.
- Applied for an 80% telecommunication grant from the School and Library Division for monthly telephone charges.
- Participated in the Tribal Librarianship training program through the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.
- Applied for Oklahoma Arts Council funding to provide programs such as The Art of Native Dancing, Artfully Scary Stories, Artistic Antics and Anansi the Spider.
- Partnered with the Friends of the Ponca City Library to seek ConocoPhillips Challenge grants to help provide support services for children’s programming activities such as the Summer Reading Program.
